Information |
This picturesque place, the Girlguiding Warwickshire County Campsite, was financed by the sale of Miss Christina Hardiman's little round house, which she bequeathed to the Guides. Located on the edge of the small town of Shipston-on-Stour, alongside the River Stour, the site is planted with young trees, providing a natural habitat for wildlife.
The campsite is within easy reach of the Cotswolds, Stratford, Warwick and Banbury.
There are four campsites of which two can be equipped. There are also:
15 minutes: The nearest town is Stratford, with numerous places to visit: Shakespearean locales, theatre backstage tours, a brass rubbing centre, the Shire Horse Centre, Butterfly Farm, river trips etc.
30 mins: A little farther away is Warwick, with its historic castle and museums. In addition, Banbury, Woodstock, Moreton-in-Marsh and Oxford are all close enough for convenient day trips. Buses pass the site to and from Woodstock, Oxford and Stratford.
Photos from the site
There are now two new Photo Galleries from the site - the first is a virtual tour around the site, taken in May 2005 when the grass has been cut but a lot of the undergrowth is running wild. The second is a collection of photos of various activities and events held at the campsite, along with a number of other general views of the site from 2001.
There is also an Aerial view of the camp site, the borders of the site are marked in red to make it easier to view.
