CITY OF COVENTRY NORTH & SOUTH GIRLGUIDING
UK On 21st February 2010 Coventry Divisions marked Girlguiding UK's Centenary World Thinking Day with a high-energy celebration at Central Hall. The Rainbows/Brownies/Guides/Senior Section/Leaders gathered in Hertford St Both. Coventry North and South Division Commissioner led the parade to Central Hall for the celebration, which marks one of the most significant dates in the guiding calendar. World Thinking Day is an opportunity for the ten million Guides and Girl Scouts in 145 countries around the world to think about the diversity of the worldwide membership and show appreciation for each other's lives. Across the UK, nine Girlguiding UK Centenary 'One World One Beat' performing arts festivals for thousands of girls and young women were staged to celebrate the occasion. Brownies from 28th Coventry South & 33rd Coventry North joined together as a choir to lead the singing. From the youngest rainbow to the trefoil guilds, presidents and past and present guiding members all enjoyed a wonderful service. Jayne Oliver compiled the service 'Our Guiding world' and the Rev Paul Wood received the colours and led the service, through the ages of Girlguiding to the present day. Also present was Coventry Lord Mayor Councillor Jack Harrison and his wife Jill, who join Coventry Divisions, at the end of the service. The Lord Mayor chatted with the girls before joining the guest for tea and cakes. Emily aged 9 said, "I really liked
seeing the old uniforms but I am glad I wear today's uniform, the brownies
must have been really cold in the thin dresses. It is really good to think
about people in other countries and what they are doing for World Thinking
Day."
