GUIDES BIG GIG CONCERT
SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 2008,
NEC BIRMINGHAM
2 SHOWS SOLD OUT TO
22,000 GIRL GUIDES
Guides from Stoke Heath, Wyken and Walsgrave met at Burger King to start
the day at 4pm. 38 Guides including leaders went onto the Coventry Train
Station passing by another 22 Guides meeting fro Keresley District. The
Café Manager on board of the Train kindly announced a welcome to
the Guides travelling.
Hazel Turner, Lin Marley and Debbie Hill (Leaders) organised tickets and
transport. Emma Johnston (Volunteer Steward) enjoyed the evening show
with a complimentary ticket after working the afternoon show. It has been
the first time to a concert for most girls.
Various bands and singers donated their time to the Girl Guide Charities
giving a show of a lifetime for Guides aged 10 and up to the Senior Section
and leaders.
The comperes were TMI presenters from TV and the stars we saw were; Sugar
Babes, Sam Beaton, DJ Ironics and the Stringetts, Avenue and The Script.
Fantastic songs one after each other.
Leon Jackson first stood and started everyone off on the Guide Promise
making us all feel very very proud to be one. Alphabeat sang "Don't
go out tonight". The Saturdays were a huge success with "Here
come the Girls". Scouting for Girls sang the finishing songs "Elvis
is Alive" and "I want to be James Bond" making everyone
join in almost the entire song and raising the roof.
Each Guide paid £21 for their ticket and returned home full of excitement
and amazement from the experience. The Guide Association organises the
Big Gig every year on a rota:- London, Birmingham and Manchester. Check
the fantastic world of Guiding on the website www.girlguiding.org.uk.
Change the World have 19 projects sponsored by Girlguiding UK and these
were projected on the big screen for all to see where the proceeds of
the night were helping, all over the World.
