Brownies Learn to Sign with Sign Solutions

As preparation for Learn to Sign Week (5th – 11th October), Sign Solutions came along to a session of Studley (St Mary’s) Brownies to give the children some valuable tips for communicating with Deaf people.

The session will count towards the Brownies’ Communication Badge, as well as being an enjoyable way of learning communication tactics.

Kim Dobbs, training administrator from Sign Solutions, attended the evening and taught the Brownies how to fingerspell their name, a few basic signs together with some communication tactics. Kim said: “It’s great to see the enthusiasm in the group when learning a new method of communicating. I am surprised how quickly they learnt to spell their names. I feel it is very important to introduce young people to different ways of communicating and to increase awareness within the community. I hope they will continue with their learning after achieving their badge”.

Before the evening came to a close the group performed the Brownie Promise in sign language which they hope to have perfected in time for this years ‘Learn to Sign Week’, 5th – 11th October.
