GIRLGUIDING CENENTARY LAUNCH
1910-2010.
| On Sunday 6th September Coventry
Girlguiding celebrated the start of a Centenary year in style with a huge
launch party. A packed stand of 1,200 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior
Section, adult leaders past and present and special guests including Coventry
athlete Dave Moorcroft and ambassador for Coventry Girlguiding Caron Matchet
joined the celebration at Coventry Rugby Arena.
Senior section members dressed as fairies, welcomed and encouraged everyone all afternoon, our chief fairies Laura and Sam taught everyone a special fairy song. During the afternoon everyone was entertained with a pageant of guiding history. There was camp singing including a special centenary song written for the event, Gemmi cheerleaders, Hulme Academy of Dance, Kenyan warriors and tribute act Abba-riginal who encouraged everyone to dance & sing along. Units were congratulated on the changing the world projects, this involved units working with one of 19 charities who teamed up with Girlguiding to help change the world. After an interacted fun-filled afternoon everyone went home with a goodie bag including a special key ring memento designed for the event. The event was made possible with thanks to the Heart of England Community Fund who sponsored the goodie bags and Awards for All lottery funds who awarded £10,000. Many thanks to the hard work from centenary team, Sovereign Exhibitions and arena staff who make this event a celebration to remember. Moira Stewart (City of Coventry
