Island Cafe

Island Cafe:- Changing the World with 2nd Studley (St Mary's) Brownies Studley District Stratford Division Warwickshire

Brownies were wild about a beach party and had lots of ideas for the Island Cafe

It enabled girls to do their the hostess badge and entertainers badge.

The leaders chose four islands Gibraltar, Anguilla, St Helena and the Falklands, all different climates.
The girls then chose which island they wanted to represent and invited parents and friends to come to an evening where they could get a taste of island life.

Over the lead up weeks each group made a table decoration, some food from the islands a display and learnt a related dance. Leaders and young leaders performed the Macarena. We Will Rock You and Hey Hey We're the Monkeys for Gibraltar, Agadoo for Anguilla and 5678 for the country dance with for Falklands. Apparently that's the popular music there. We also added some sketches and Brownies songs.

On the day we held a workshop from 10a.m.-3.15 p.m, where a set designer came in and helped us make a back drop for the stage. We made food and set up tables, rehearsed our entertainment and had a Samba workshop.

The event finished with the island cafe night where we invited our families to buy tickets to attend.
We showed You Tube tourist clips of the islands and the girls gave out 4 guiding facts about branch associations in those remote places. We finished the evening with us all doing the cha cha slide and a demonstration by the girls led by the local samba drummers.

It was hard work but a lot of fun.

Our evening was especially eventful as we had the delightful Lesley Knighton, Chief Commissioner for the Midlands amongst our guests and all the girls were presented with a Midlands Region Badge.
