Becoming a Trainer/Mentor

CENTENARY NARROW BOAT

Many of you will be familiar with the 70-foot narrow boat, Centenary, moored at Hillmorton Marina. She is a 12- berth boat who can be hired, at much less than commercial rates, to take groups of girls away on the wonderful canal network we have in Warwickshire. You do need a Narrow Boat Licence to hire her, but we also have some willing qualified skippers in the County who you could use if you don’t wish to take the licence yourselves. You can find more details on the boat at: http://www.centenarynarrowboat.btck.co.uk/ Centenary is owned by a Trust (and I am a Trustee), and was first donated to the Stratford on Avon Youth Trust by Marks and Spencer in 1983 to mark their own Centenary (hence the name!).

She’s now getting to be a bit of an old lady, and is in need of some serious maintenance work. After considerable discussion we finally decided to go ahead and use up virtually all our available capital, on the basis that the only other alternative was to scrap her. Every year it’s a fine juggling act to balance income and expenditure and we usually just about manage it with hiring fees and grants. This year it’s different! Like so many other organisations and charities we haven't been able to generate our normal income this year due to the Covid19 virus. In our case the position has been exacerbated because she has been in dock awaiting her essential work and the workforce have not been able to carry out the repairs due to the lockdown.

Calor Gas operate a grant system each year based on online votes. So, the purpose of my missive is to ask you to vote for us. Many of you kindly did this last year, but unfortunately we didn't generate enough votes to obtain a grant. We can but hope that this year it will be different. It would help us in this aim if you would go on the Calor website and click "Like" to enhance our chances. It will not cost you anything, though you have to register an email address and password. This would give us 1 point in our bid which is competitive with other charitable projects. If you know of others who might support us in this way please pass this message on. I do appreciate that voting on this site is not a 10 second task, it does take a little time, but we would be extremely grateful if you could spare some minutes and vote for us.

The procedure is as follows: 1. Go to the "Calor Rural Communities Fund" website: https://communityfund.calor.co.uk/ 2. Register an email address and make up a password. 3. Find "Projects" and put "avon" in the search box. 4. Click on "The Stratford upon Avon Narrow Boat Trust" 5. Click on "Like". You will only get a confirmation of vote if you tick the box for updates. If you are feeling generous there is an opportunity on the site to donate to our project, which gives us 10 points in addition to the donation. (Click "Support us"). PLEASE NOTE: VOTING CLOSES AT 9.00am ON 16TH JULY!!!! I do hope that you could find 5 minutes in these stressful times to do this. This money would make a lot of difference to us, and would also make a lot of difference if you hire the boat, giving a lovely new central heating system to replace the current one! Many thanks in advance. V
